Being a professional photographer, I have pretty rigorous standards for what I share. Normally, I wouldn’t post something of such relatively low quality, but the historical context of this image, given today’s date, is important and meaningful enough for me to share this image. This frame was made at 6:18 p.m. on May 31st, 2013, looking north up Evans Street at 44th Street in rural Canadian County, Oklahoma. The bumpy roads and driving at high speeds made this not one of my sharpest or most well composed frames. But what’s happening within it, is what matters here. Before my very eyes, the entire mesocyclone had just dropped to the earth evolved into the most unfathomably large tornado I’d ever seen. I knew in my heart that chasers were dying as this terrible maelstrom unfolded before me; I never would have dreamed who those chasers would be.
This was, according to time logs from the video cameras recovered in the aftermath, the minute that our brothers Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras and Carl Young were overtaken by the terrible beast, approximately four miles to the north/northwest of my location, and when the storm claimed them from this mortal coil.  Two years have passed by, and still every time I look at this frame, it puts a lump in my throat and brings tears to my eyes. Everything changed on this day, at this moment in time, and the chasing community forever was altered by what transpired here. Tim was my chasing mentor, and I knew Paul and Carl quite well also. They were some of the finest men I’ve ever known. And their dedication and passion was contagious and inspiring. They passed from this world doing what they loved, and we can all take some sense of comfort in that. Keep the Samaras and Young families in your hearts today. Remember this day, the 31st of May, when three great men were swept away

The larger Canadian, Tx tornado May 27th 2015. The picture is enhanced. Had a lot of fun chasing this storm from its initial CU birth to outflow death. I was more pleased to see how well all chasers/public played on the roads.

Small communities in western Kansas are supported by volunteers in storm times. Looming in the background is a tornadic supercell…..volunteers Derek & Aaron stand by and act as spotters for Gray County (Cimarron). It’s amazing to see how communities band together and are fully prepared for the worst. 27th May 2015

(I had to enhance this picture quite a bit) here is a land-spout tornado back I caught on July 18th near Goodland, Kansas. I remember this picture caused quite a bit of controversy…. Lol but the NWS Goodland DID confirm this as a land-spout. What a chase day this was.
