Historic Snow and Freezing Temperatures Take Hold

Thousands are without power in the Mid West as a historic arctic outbreak continues to impact areas from Illinois to Florida. Record low temperatures were recorded Monday in Chicago and Fort Wayne Indiana as the frigid temperatures began to move South and East. Even Florida was unable to escape the cold with hard freeze warnings in place for several counties. A large number of media outlets are touting the Polar Vortex which actually is a seasonal phenomenon and not anything out of the ordinary. With that being said this round of arctic air is quite historic in strength and size. As of Tuesday morning more that 2300 flights were cancelled across the US and 3200  were delayed. The entire state of Illinois and parts of Indiana were declared a disaster area by officials and several deaths have already been blamed on this arctic outbreak. The good news is that many areas will see a recovery in temperatures by the end of the week with several locations returning above freezing.
